If you love beer, large crowds, loud music and fancy costumes, then Oktoberfest is the festival for you.
This festival which is held in Munich, Germany, has an annual attendance of over 7 million people from all over the world. It is even called the “biggest fair in the world”.
Around mid-summer, towards October, people gathered at the Theresienwiese ( a fair ground where the festival was initiated) to celebrate Bavarian culture and drink flowing pints of beer.
The beer is brewed by the original six Munich based breweries, served in one litter Mugs by Ladies dressed in racy Bavarian costumes inside several beer tents on the fair ground.
Oktoberfest started as a wedding celebration more than 200 years ago when Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig tied the knot with Princess Therese of Saxony-Hidburghausen around October, 1810. The wedding ceremony lasted for several days with people drinking, feasting and engaging in several activities.
The celebration was so fun that the people requested for it the next year and so started the annual celebration.
