The Director- General of the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA), Clement Nze has revealed that the rise in water level of River Benue may increase the likelihood of river flooding in Adamawa, Taraba and Benue states.
Speaking at an ongoing press conference in Abuja, Nze said water from six out of the eight countries that make up the Niger Basin Authority has arrived Nigeria as at today.
The DG said that the water will empty itself into River Niger, thereby leading to increased flooding in ten states.
He gave the names of the states as Kebbi, Niger, Kwara, Nasarawa and Kogi.
Other states likely to be affected by the river flooding are: Edo, Anambra, Delta, Rivers and Bayelsa.
