NSCDC Rescues Girl Chained By Mother

Personnel of the Abia State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have rescued a teenage girl who was chained on the neck and limbs by her mother.

The rescue operation was reportedly carried out on Sunday, February 21, at Umuokoro Obinkita Arochukwu Local Government Area of the state following a tip-off.

The young girl's plight came to public knowledge through a video that went viral. Personnel of the NSCDC were alerted and they traced the victim to her parent's house where they had to force their way in to rescue the victim who was chained and locked inside a room.

Upon her arrest, Ada’s mother who gave her name as Blessing claimed that her daughter had a mental challenge, adding that she had to chain her to prevent her from wandering off.

Meanwhile, the wife of the Governor, Dr. Mrs Nkechi Ikpeazu, and owner of Vicar Hope Foundation, has taken custody of the victim in order to facilitate expert psychiatric evaluation to ascertain her condition and provide treatment.

The First Lady who spoke through her Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Chika Ojiegbe, said there was no excuse for the inhuman treatment meted to the teenager by her parent.
