The governorship primary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Kogi state ended abruptly in the early hours of Wednesday when gunmen invaded the Lokoja Confluence Stadium, venue of the election, yans understands.
According to sources, votes in eight out of the 10 ballot boxes have already been counted and sorted out before the disruption by the gunmen.
Aspirants, delegates and others scampered for safety while the number of casualty has yet to be ascertained as at the time of filing this report.
Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee for the PDP primary escaped the bullets of the gunmen.
Reports say that voting began at about 6:50 pm at the Confluence Stadium, Lokoja.
Fintiri said that 2,388 delegates were accredited out of a total 2,511 PDP delegates from 21 local government areas of Kogi.
He added that 600 ballot papers had been provided, saying they had enough ballot papers.
Earlier, Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan, the PDP Publicity Secretary, noted that the party had taken the necessary steps to ensure free, fair, credible, transparent and peaceful election.
According to him, the names of all the delegates across the state had been published in different national dailies and also online.
He added that every delegate had his or her photograph printed on the accreditation card.
Ologbondiyan explained that all aspirants had pledged to support whoever wins the party primaries for the governorship election scheduled for November 16.
