Guarantee Trust Bank (GTBank) has not responded to reports about the disappearance of its mobile banking app on the App Store, making online banking difficult for customers who use iOS.
As at Wednesday, April 21, 2021, Yans.ng conducted a search for the application as users on social media began to flag the unavailability of the mobile app on App Store, confirming the claims which started on Tuesday, April 20, 2020.
The sudden disappearance of the App has also affected some customers who already had the app on their devices as login attempts returned error messages.
An attempt by our correspondent to reach the management of the bank over the issue has proven abortive as messages are yet to be responded to.
It is worthy to note that on March 15, 2020, telecommunications companies suspended the USSD service to banks over unpaid debt to the sum of N42 billion.
The suspension of the USSD service affected customers of all Nigerian banks within the country and has only been restored temporarily with significant reduction to the success of transactions carried out using the banks’ short codes.
As at the time of filing this report, Yans.ng can confirm that GTBank previously had two mobile applications for mobile banking on the App Store. The GTBank App and the GT World app. While service on the later is currently unavailable, the former which is an old application with the last update released years ago.
Although online banking via web browsers is still available, this situation will continue to inconvenience customers who already have to queue for long hours at bank branches due to COVID-19 imposed social distancing protocols.
Android users can still find the application on the google play store.
