ADC: Court of Appeal Ruling Does Not Affect Our Primaries

The African Democratic Congress has moved to calm concerns over a recent court decision, insisting that its internal elections remain valid and unchanged. The party, currently led by Senator David Mark, said the outcome of its candidate selection process stands regardless of the latest judgment from the Court of Appeal.

Senator Mark, who chairs the party’s leadership, directed the message through the party’s communications team. The ADC has been working to consolidate its structures ahead of upcoming elections, and the leadership said it will not allow legal interpretations to create confusion among members.

In a statement released on Monday, the party addressed reports circulating about the court ruling. The National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, signed the statement and spoke directly to both party members and the general public.

According to Abdullahi, the judgment delivered by the Court of Appeal on the same day has no bearing on how the ADC chose its candidates. He stressed that the party followed due process in line with its constitution and electoral guidelines.

“We wish to assure members of the ADC and the general public that today’s Court of Appeal judgment has no effect whatsoever on the direct primaries through which the ADC’s candidates emerged at all levels,” Abdullahi said.

He explained that the direct primaries were conducted across the country and produced the party’s flag bearers for various positions. Because those elections were held according to party rules, the leadership maintains they cannot be invalidated by the court’s decision.

The ADC also used the opportunity to urge members to remain focused and avoid distractions. Abdullahi noted that the party is committed to transparency and will continue to engage with relevant institutions to protect the integrity of its processes.

With the clarification, the party says it is moving forward with campaign preparations. The leadership under Senator Mark maintained that all ADC candidates who emerged from the primaries remain the party’s duly recognized representatives.
