Senator Garba Musa Maidoki, who represents Kebbi South Senatorial District, says the Kebbi State Government blocked a N1.2 billion federal-funded hospital rehabilitation meant for his constituency.
He announced his defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Tuesday, citing the stalled project as a key reason.
Speaking to journalists after his defection was made public at plenary, Maidoki said the project was designed to revive a general hospital in poor condition within Kebbi South. 
According to him, N600 million of the total sum was earmarked specifically for drugs and medical equipment. He described the intervention as urgent for residents who rely on the facility.
“The state government denied us the opportunity to execute the project. That money is now lost, and the hospital remains in poor condition,” Maidoki said.
He added that other initiatives for his district were also denied, including a proposed modern veterinary clinic in Zuru.
Maidoki noted that the current veterinary facility in Zuru was built before 1960 during the colonial era and has not seen significant upgrades since, despite serving an agrarian population.
The senator framed the blocked projects as evidence of what he called systemic neglect and marginalisation of Kebbi South under Governor Nasir Idris’s administration.
He further alleged political discrimination within the APC, claiming he was denied an automatic ticket while other senators from the state received one.
