Senator Abba Moro, representing Benue South Senatorial District and serving as Senate Minority Leader, has congratulated Olaka Nwogu of the Peoples Democratic Party on his victory in Saturday’s bye-election for Rivers South East Senatorial District. He issued the statement on behalf of the Senate minority caucus.
The Independent National Electoral Commission announced Nwogu as the winner on Sunday. He secured 47,961 votes in a decisive outcome.
Nwogu’s closest challenger, the All Progressives Congress candidate, polled 1,647 votes. The margin underscores what the PDP describes as a landslide result. 
Senator Moro said the outcome reflects the growing acceptability of the PDP among voters in Rivers South East and beyond. He linked the result to renewed confidence in the party at the grassroots.
He credited the party’s National Leader and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barr. Nyesom Wike, for his role in the win. Moro pointed to Wike’s doggedness as a key factor driving recent electoral gains.
According to Moro, Wike’s leadership is returning the PDP to its winning ways. He expressed confidence that the party’s momentum would continue to build ahead of future contests.
Looking toward 2027, the Senate Minority Leader assured of his continued contribution to strengthen the PDP at all levels. He emphasized unity and strategy as critical for the general elections.
Moro congratulated Nwogu and formally welcomed him to the Senate. He pledged to provide necessary guidance and support to ensure Nwogu has a smooth stay in the upper chamber.
