The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered that Omoyele Sowore, presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, be remanded in Kuje Correctional Centre.
Justice Mohammed Umar issued the ruling and directed that Sowore remain in custody pending the hearing and determination of his motion to stay the revocation of his bail and the bench warrant issued against him. 
The judge rejected Sowore’s earlier request asking him to recuse himself from the case over alleged bias. That application was dismissed in court.
Following the dismissal, the matter was adjourned to June 24 for the hearing of the stay application. The application was filed by Sowore’s new counsel, Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika, SAN.
The remand order follows Justice Umar’s June 16 decision to revoke Sowore’s bail. The revocation came after Sowore failed to appear in court for his ongoing trial.
In that June 16 ruling, the court also issued a bench warrant for Sowore’s arrest. The order was granted after an oral application by Akinkolu Kehinde, SAN, counsel for the State Security Services.
The SSS is prosecuting Sowore over posts he made on X and Facebook. He allegedly referred to President Bola Tinubu as “a criminal,” which the agency says amounts to making false claims against the president.
The case will resume on June 24 when the court hears arguments on whether to suspend the bail revocation and arrest warrant.
