Comrade Grace Ike, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ FCT Council, was honored at the weekend with the Humanitarian Award for Excellence in Service. The award recognized her consistent contributions to society and her role in mobilizing journalists for national development. She was unable to attend personally and was represented at the event.
The prestigious Women of Glory Foundation named her the “Most Active Journalistic Mobilizer.” The organizers said her leadership has helped integrate journalists into proactive efforts that advance public interest and amplify issues affecting vulnerable communities across the FCT and beyond.
The award ceremony took place in Abuja on Saturday, 6 June 2026. It was one of the main events marking the 10th anniversary of the Women of Glory Foundation. The anniversary brought together women leaders, advocates, and humanitarians to celebrate a decade of grassroots impact. 
Women of Glory Foundation described itself as a lifeline for struggling women, especially widows, elderly women, single mothers, and other vulnerable groups. Through empowerment programs, mentorship, skills training, healthcare support, and faith-based guidance, the foundation helps women rebuild confidence and step into their purpose.
The organization now has members in all 36 states of Nigeria. Each state chapter runs humanitarian services quietly while also creating awareness on national development, violence against women and children, and social, health, economic, and environmental issues. Their work has remained largely community-driven over the last decade.
Speaking at the anniversary, founder Dr. Nneka Evelyn Nzewi shared the personal story behind the foundation. She recounted losing her father at a young age and watching her mother raise five children alone after also losing two children. That struggle, she said, inspired her promise to God: if she succeeded, she would dedicate her life to supporting women like her mother.
During the presentation, the organizers praised Chairman Grace Ike’s outstanding leadership. The award was received on her behalf by Sharon Emephia, Assistant Secretary of NUJ FCT Council. Speaking for Grace Ike, Sharon commended the foundation for 10 years of sustained impact, calling it a testament to resilience and purpose-driven service.
In her acceptance message, Grace Ike expressed gratitude and humility. She said the honor reflects the collective efforts of NUJ FCT Council and its commitment to truth, development, and societal progress.
The organizers closed by thanking everyone who has supported their work and invited more people to join their mission of changing lives.
