Former Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Kingsley Chinda, has emerged as the All Progressives Congress flagbearer for the 2027 Rivers State governorship election following the party’s primaries held today.

Announcing the result, Chairman of the APC Gubernatorial and House of Assembly Primaries Committee, Rt. Hon. Laori Kwamoti, said Chinda polled 268,497 valid votes to secure the ticket after meeting all constitutional and party requirements.

Chinda ran as the sole candidate after other aspirants withdrew or stepped down ahead of the exercise, according to a statement from his press secretary, Ekesunnie Caleb.

Earlier in the day, he cast his vote in his Elelenwo hometown, where a large turnout of party members voted overwhelmingly in his favour.

In his acceptance remarks, Chinda pledged to govern with the fear of God and respect for the rule of law, stressing that accountability would be central to his administration.

He thanked those who stepped down for helping to ensure a smooth process and expressed appreciation to party leaders and the APC for the confidence reposed in him.

Chinda said his administration would be all-inclusive and guided by his “I win, you win” theme, promising teamwork and collective decision-making. “The party is going to sit down and chart the course and process moving forward,” he stated.

The outcome sets the stage for Chinda to lead the APC’s challenge in Rivers State as political activities build toward the 2027 general elections.
