Former Senator Shehu Sani has secured the All Progressives Congress ticket for Kaduna Central Senatorial District, positioning himself for a return to the National Assembly. The result emerged from the party’s primary election held on Monday in Kaduna State.
Sani, who represented Kaduna Central in the 8th National Assembly, defeated two challengers to clinch the ticket. His opponents were former Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Yusuf Zailani, and youth activist Shettima Yerima. The contest was conducted on Monday across the senatorial district. 
With the victory, Sani will now contest in the general election scheduled for January 2027. He aims to represent Kaduna Central in the 11th National Assembly if elected by the electorate.
The APC primaries in Kaduna also produced winners in the state’s other two senatorial districts. In Kaduna North, former Governor Mukhtar Ramallan Yero emerged as the party’s candidate after a closely contested process.
Yero secured 6,060 votes across the eight local government councils that make up Kaduna North Senatorial District. The margin gave him the edge to carry the APC flag into the 2027 general election.
In Kaduna South Senatorial District, incumbent Senator Sunday Katung retained the APC ticket. He faced challenges from former Senator Danjuma La’ar and Michael Auta but prevailed in the primary.
Katung polled 7,513 votes to defeat his rivals and secure the nomination. His win sets up another contest for the seat in the upcoming general election.
The outcome of the three primaries completes the APC’s senatorial slate for Kaduna State ahead of the 2027 polls. All candidates will now shift focus to campaigning for the January election.
