The All Progressives Congress House of Assembly Screening Committee has started screening 24 aspirants contesting for Enugu State House of Assembly seats under the party’s platform. The exercise is part of the process to select candidates ahead of the upcoming elections.
Committee Chairman Comrade Lucky Porki said the submission window for Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms has closed, with only one aspirant from each of the 24 state constituencies submitting documents. He noted that this has streamlined the panel’s work, allowing it to focus on a manageable number of candidates.
Porki explained that the committee would carefully examine the records and credentials of each aspirant. The goal is to confirm that everyone screened meets the qualifications required to serve the people of Enugu State effectively in their respective constituencies. 
Despite having a single aspirant per seat, the chairman stressed that the party would not bypass due process. He said all procedures would follow the 1999 Constitution as amended, the Electoral Act, and the APC Constitution and Guidelines to ensure transparency and fairness.
To address possible disputes, Porki said the Screening Appeal Committee is already set up and ready to receive petitions. Any member dissatisfied with the outcome of the screening can approach the appeal body once it begins sitting after the current exercise.
The panel also acknowledged the role of Governor Peter Mbah, the state APC leadership, and other stakeholders in fostering unity within the party. Porki credited them for promoting consensus and cooperation that have kept the Enugu chapter stable and focused.
“We recommend the Enugu State formula to other state chapters of our party as a virtue worthy of emulation,” Porki said, commending the synergy between the State Executive Committee, party leaders, and members for upholding party loyalty and democratic practices.
APC State Chairman Dr. Martin Chukwunweike added his commendation, thanking the national leadership, Governor Mbah, and all panels for providing a level playing field for aspirants. The screening panel includes Barr. Mary Ejiro as Secretary, Chief Godpower Asighwu, and Hon. Juliet Amaraeghu. The Appeal Committee is chaired by Dr. Dillion Oyowa, with Umokoro Enomioghene Samuel as Secretary and Hon. Desmond Okpako Duke as a member.
