Former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege has effectively launched an early bid for the 2027 senatorial race, using a high-profile return to Delta State to gauge his political strength and reassert his standing within the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He arrived Thursday to a charged reception at Osubi Airport. The former Delta APC governorship candidate was welcomed by a large crowd of supporters, setting the tone for a carefully choreographed show of grassroots backing.
A procession followed from the airport to Orogun in Ughelli North Local Government Area. Party insiders describe the event as a calculated move to rebuild momentum ahead of the APC primaries. 
At a reception held at the Federal Polytechnic, Orogun, Omo-Agege leaned on his National Assembly record to justify a return bid. He pointed to his role in establishing the Federal Polytechnic, Orogun and the Nigerian Defence Space School as proof of his influence.
He also referenced the Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences in Kwale. More prominently, he spotlighted the proposed Oil and Gas Industrial Park between Eku and Abraka, calling it a potential driver of jobs and industrial growth in Delta Central.
According to him, the project would bring electricity and economic opportunities to several communities across the region. Beyond projects, Omo-Agege worked to reposition himself politically.
He framed his past representation as inclusive and statewide rather than limited to Delta Central. The message is viewed as an attempt to broaden his appeal before what could be a competitive primary contest.
He reaffirmed loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and urged supporters to start grassroots mobilisation. “Go back to your wards and organise,” he told the crowd, in remarks widely interpreted as confirmation of his interest in reclaiming the Delta Central senatorial seat. The event drew APC figures including Chiedu Ebie, Ayiri Emami, and Jones Erue, whose presence analysts say shows growing alignment around his ambition.
Observers note that while the turnout signals a strong political base, it also opens what is likely to be a fiercely contested race within the APC. With structure, alliances, and timing set to play decisive roles, Omo-Agege’s calculated re-entry marks the early front in the 2027 battle for Delta Central’s Senate seat.
