Again; Eight Killed in Plateau State Attack

Eight people have been killed in a late-night attack by gunmen in Mbwelle village, Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State. 
The attackers reportedly invaded the community and opened fire on residents, resulting in the deaths of eight family members.The victims have been identified as Elder Iliya Mangut Dakus, Luck Titus Dakus, Habila Istifanu Dakus, Hassan Istifanus Dakus, Hassan Moses Dakus, Biggie Lucky Dakus, Sunday Gideon Dakus, and Innocent Barnabas Makwin.
At least three others sustained injuries, and several people are still missing.The chairman of Bokkos Local Government Area, Samuel Amalau, expressed concern over the recurring violence in the area. He condemned the attack, describing it as a “senseless act of violence perpetrated by terrorists against innocent and law-abiding citizens.”In a statement, Amalau extended condolences to the bereaved families and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
He commended security agencies for their efforts and urged residents to support them with timely and credible information to help prevent further attacks.
The chairman emphasized the importance of community vigilance, calling on residents to remain alert and proactive in safeguarding their neighborhoods. He also appealed to youths to exercise restraint and avoid actions that could escalate tensions.
Amalau reaffirmed the right to lawful self-defense and stated that the government is working closely with security agencies to ensure that those behind the atrocities are identified and brought to justice.
The Plateau State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Alfred Alabo, confirmed that investigations are ongoing and assured that more details would be made available.
The attack has heightened tension in the area, with residents expressing anger over the perceived failure of security operatives to respond promptly. Some locals are reportedly planning protests, claiming that security personnel were deployed to protect another community suspected to be the origin of the attackers.
