A Twitter user identified as Sugun has reportedly taken dangerous insecticide ‘sniper’ in a bid to commit suicide over his poor Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) result.
According to a post on his Twitter account @tweetsofshegun, Sugun lamented how he scored 167 in this year’s UTME at a time when some well-meaning individuals have decided to sponsor his university education. The post showed that he scored 189 in 2015, 202 in 2016 and 233 in 2017.
yans recalls that the Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) released the 2019 UTME results last Friday.
About 1,792,719 candidates sat for the exams, while 34,120 candidates had their results withheld for examination malpractice.
The Registrar of the board, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, who made the announcement in Abuja on Saturday also stated that 15,145 results were withheld for further clarification.
He said, for the 2019 UTME, 1,886,508 candidates registered including those who registered at the foreign centres.
“Out of this number, which excludes the Direct Entry candidates, 59,667 were absent. A total of 1,826,839 sat the UTME. Today, we are releasing the results of 1,792,719 candidates.
